Behaviour in a dental emergency

Further emergency numbers:

Dental accident

As the bones of children and adolescents are not as strong as those of adults, dental accidents occur more frequently in them.

Most dental accidents occur during sporting activities or car accidents. In most cases, a tooth is completely knocked out or hit so that it is no longer stable or in the right place in the jaw. In this case, you should ideally visit your emergency dentist within half an hour of the accident. If the tooth is completely knocked out, bring it with you and avoid touching the exposed root of the tooth. Ideally, the dentist will be able to reinsert the tooth that has fallen out.

Swelling of the jaw

You should always take swelling of the jaw or gums seriously. Especially if it occurs within a short period of time. Swelling can indicate tooth abscesses that require rapid treatment by an emergency dentist. However, chronic swelling that has been present for a long time should also be examined by a dentist. They can be a sign of cysts or even tumours in the oral cavity.

Paediatric dental emergencies

CITYDENTAL is not only the right contact for dental emergencies in adults, but is also a paediatric dental emergency practice. We have an emergency dentist for children who is specially trained to deal with the needs and fears of young and older children, takes plenty of time for treatment and has experience in paediatric dentistry.

Toothache

Inflammation is caused by inflammation inside the tooth. This is where the dental nerves are located, which are extremely sensitive to pain. This is caused by holes in the teeth, injuries or infections. Jaw pain can also radiate to the teeth and thus be perceived as toothache.

Your emergency dentist

Thanks to our dental emergency service, you can usually get an appointment at CITYDENTAL on the same day - even at weekends and on public holidays, of course at no extra charge.

We reserve special time slots every day for acute dental emergencies so that you don'thave to wait unnecessarily if you have a toothache or injury, allowing us to treat you shortly after you arrive, alleviate your symptoms and help you quickly and reliably.

As your emergency dentist in Zurich, it is our aim to provide you with competent assistance in any emergency situation - so that you can feel well again as quickly as possible.

More about the dental emergency service

If you are suffering from acute toothache or a dental emergency requires immediate treatment, we at CITYDENTAL are always there for you. As a dental practice with an emergency service, we can usually offer youan appointment on the same day during our regular opening hours.

We differentiate between three categories in a dental emergency to optimally assess your concerns:

Category 1

For example, advanced abscesses with severe swelling, knocked out or severely displaced teeth, open wounds with unstoppable and severe bleeding in the mouth, jaw fractures, etc.

Category 2

Root infections with moderate to severe pain, broken and knocked out teeth.

Category 3

Fillings/crowns that have fallen out, veneers that have fallen out, denture pressure points and sharp edges.

In the case of category 1, there is no time to lose.

Emergency treatment at CITYDENTAL takes about 30-45 minutes and is primarily aimed at resolving the acute problem or pain.

Emergency treatment does not replace a dental examination or definitive treatment, even if in some cases a definitive solution can already be found during the emergency session.

No surcharge - even on weekends!

Emergency treatment at CITYDENTAL is always charged at no extra charge. Even at weekends and on public holidays. Depending on the emergency, it costs between CHF 150 and CHF 495.

Prophylaxis helps against dental emergencies

As experts, we recommend that you prevent dental problems with regular oral hygiene and professional teeth cleaning. You should also have a check-up at the dentist at least once a year. Although problems and toothache cannot always be avoided, you can counteract them as best you can with the above recommendations.

In principle, dental problems can occur at any time. It is often difficult for the person affected to judge how urgent immediate treatment is. Can dental treatment wait a few hours, days or even weeks? Or should the nearest emergency service be consulted immediately?

In the following, we would like to give you a little guidance on when you should visit an emergency dentist.

Dental emergencies include severe toothache, infections, broken teeth and lost teeth.

The most common dental emergencies are

  • Abscesses, infections or swollen gums
  • Dental accidents such as broken or chipped teeth
  • toothache
  • Broken fillings, loose fillings, crowns, onlays, veneers or bridges
  • Severe jaw pain

In these cases, you should contact your emergency dentist at CITYDENTAL immediately.

There are usually a few indicators that help to assess the urgency of a visit to the emergency dentist.

For example, if you have lost a tooth or broken a tooth, you should definitely make an appointment with your emergency dentist immediately. Even if you have severe toothache, you should not hesitate to make an emergency appointment straight away! If you notice a sensitive area but it doesn't really bother you, you can usually make a normal appointment with your dentist and wait until then without any worries.

Important questions about emergency treatment

A dental emergency usually requires immediate treatment. If you notice any of these signs, contact us as soon as possible. Symptoms of this kind can worsen quickly.

  • Blunt toothache
  • Jaw joint or muscle pain
  • Sensitivity to cold and heat
  • Severe toothache or other severe pain in the mouth
  • Incessant bleeding of the gums
  • Severely swollen gums
  • Cramped jaw, mouth can no longer be opened

Emergency treatment at CITYDENTAL takes approx. 30-45 minutes and is primarily aimed at resolving the acute problem or pain.
